Did you hear the rain this morning?

Yesterday morning my wife woke me up and asked, "did you hear the rain coming down this morning?" It sounded like it was coming through the ceiling. I told her I did not hear a thing. Yes the storm was beating down upon my home, but I was deep in sleep and never heard a noise. Usually I am the one that hears the storms and she is the one deeply sleeping, but this time it was her turn to hear the storm and not me.

I remember a time when we were first married and living in our first apartment. The fire alarm went off at 3 a.m. and the fire department came and we never heard it. They evacuated the building, but we were soundly sleeping and never heard the alarm or the bang on the doors. So we were the only ones left inside. I shudder to think if there was a real fire or emergency.

Another time we were ministering in Philadelphia and our host Pastor arranged for us to stay in a very nice hotel and we were given a room on the 24th floor in a suite. At 1a.m. the fire alarm went off and we heard it. This was a month after 9/11, we flew down the 24 flights of stairs. People were moving very slow and the impulse was to go by them to save our lives. Their slowness may cause us great harm. But we didn't do that and actually helped others go down. It was a false alarm, but nevertheless it was scary.

So often things are happening all around us, storms, crisis in families, our spiritual life and we are not even aware of them. Other times the alarms are loud and clear. I don't know why the Lord allowed us to sleep through two alarms and not the other, but He did. Yet in all these cases we were kept safe. The INVISIBLE GOD never sleeps and is continually watching over us and working in us whether we are conscious of it or not. The bible tell us that "He that has begun a good work in us will be faithful to complete it."

It does not say we have to be conscious of this working. I am really learning that God is working in me in the invisible, not in my feelings or emotions. I don't have to see it or feel it to know God is working and doing all He said, I must just believe He is! He is God Almighty and He is working where I can't see or feel and I don't have to. Beloved, let us put our absolute trust in HIs goodness and His fiathfulness. We will never be disappointed.
