It is monsoon season here in Tucson. It is a season that each of us must be extra careful when driving in the daily thunder storms. Since we live in the valley between 4 mountain ranges, we are the perfect spot for all the water to run down into. Because of this, our roads flood because of flash flooding and because of the rain that comes down from the washes. Washes are like little rivers. We drive through them all year round, but in monsoon seasons they become the run-off spots from the mountains and become little rivers. Roads we normally drive become not passable. Some motorist ignore the warning signs that say road flooded. They ignore them because there may be no water in the wash at that moment, or the water doesnt' look that deep.
What they find out to often at their peril, is the water is much deeper than they thought and the current of the water is so powerful it sweeps them away in their vehicles. To often, many people lose their lives because of this. Sometimes they may drive through it and not see the wall of water coming down the mountain until it is to late and then they are swept away. Tragicly this happened to two hikers this weekend. They were swept away by a wall of water they didnt' see coming through the foothills.
As I was pondering this morning, I thought about how badly we need the rain during this season. In the desert it may not rain for 100's of days in a row. We badly need the rain for things to grow in the fall, winter and spring. Yet the very rain we need can become the thing that can take away peoples lives unaware. I was reminded of the warning of the bible when it says Jesus will come back at a moment we are not prepared for, like a thief in the night. The bible tells us not to be caught unawares, but to be sober and vigilant for His return. That we need to be about His business when He comes.
Many of God's people are praying for the rain to come, but do we understand that this very rain will become a flood that will usher in the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Are we really ready for His coming like the former and latter rains. If all truth is observed by nature, then let nature teach of what His coming may be like.
